Musicians and their rooms
What a person owns and how they decorate their surroundings says a lot about them. In this environmental portraiture series, I document musicians at Syracuse University in their bedrooms as well as the objects that speak to their character.
Griffin Goode recently began his solo project Lunes after helping launch the student band Shallow Alcove. Overlaid on the left is a page from Goode’s songwriting journal.
Grace Krichbaum, former singer in Hail, Mary, has transitioned into being a solo artist and lead singer in Shallow Alcove.
In every room she has, Krichbaum fills her walls with notes, pictures, and small objects that remind her of the people and things she loves.
Rory Stanley, manager of the local band Settle For Sadler and lead singer of The Weather Channel, a new metal band.
Stanley has an extensive record collection, storing those that she brought to Syracuse University in the top drawer of her dresser.
Rylan Mortensen is lead singer and founder of Settle For Sadler, and is just beginning to produce solo work. Overlaid is handwritten sheet music of a song by Mortensen.
Found on his bedroom floor, Harris's guitar case is adorned with stickers of various bands and musicians.
Dan Harris, founder, lead guitarist, and vocalist of Shallow Alcove in his bedroom just before going to bed.
Benji Wittman is a solo artist and frequent drummer in countless campus bands. Overlaid on the right are song lyrics from Wittman's journal.
A portion of Wittman's collection of Converse, his favorite shoe, lie in a pile next to his bedroom door.
